An ending of horror for the Saturday Writing Essential...
The Rain Child
All the while, the little girl watched, unaffected by the deadly downpour; she clapped her hands and laughed, and danced around Lila, splashing water. As her skin dissolved, and bits of tissue melted into puddles of rainwater, Lila’s eyes pleaded with the child, “make it stop”, but no release came. Lila suffered until her body shut down and she died, nothing more than a statue of bones and charred meat.
Then the child smiled, and spoke, “Rain, rain go away, come again another day.” The rain ceased, and the sun peeked out from behind the clouds. The little girl reached out her hand, touching Lila’s corpse, and they both disappeared.
