Talk about get screwed on the gift giving. My first husband and I had the same birthday -different years but April 10th we shared for about 9 years.
When it came time to get married people suggested that date. They were either insane, cheap or a bit of both. That didn't happen and we got married in the fall.
So for 9 years we got combo presents up the wazoo. My in-laws did it as there was little money to go around so we got a lot of his and hers presents. It was like having two anniversaries a both us felt like Siamese twins and that we had lost our individuality.
On the upside we did get some big ticket items like a chest freezer one year and a microwave another. That wasn't too bad.
When we divorced -although amicably it was hard to forget the other ones birthday as I had to help our daughter buy a card or present for daddy.
We are still friends and exchange cards yearly. It's fun when I can kid him about big birthdays knowing he will get revenge on me two years later. I will be 50 next April and I am sure I have a funky card waiting for me.
When I got married the second time I made sure hubby's birthday was nowhere near mine.
