My husband was a veteran
Of the war to end all wars
For many months his food came from a can
His favorite, wouldn't you know it, was Spam
We struggled with a food budget
When first we were married
Most people do, I think
But I was never harried
For I went down the canned meat aisle
And there was that Spam, hooray
How many times in my life did
Spam just make our day
I learned to cook it in the oven
Like a tiny roasted ham
Pineapple and brown sugar topped it
That was a most delicious Spam
It went with eggs made any style
Just put it on the side
I knew when I was successful
The smile on his face was my guide
Now he's been gone awhile
But when walking by it down the aisle
My had reaches for it automatically
Spam makes my heart smile
Just the memory of how he loved it
Is a wonderful thought for me
So buy a can of Spam, dress it up
It is part of our history
