The Prompt this Week is to Tell How and Why I stayed with Gather during the unexpected, and unwarned about shutdown.
Where is Gather?
I keyed in gather.com as usual.
Nothing. Nada, got told the server could find no such site.
Tried again. Same result. Googled it after over half an hour of trying, and finally got on Gather.
Could do nothing but look. Tried googling again, and finally got a conversation between Joy Bee, Pam Brittain, Heather C. and Jay O. I'm not sure, but Jules may have been in that conversation. Not sure which of us got on first.
They were the only people who seemed to be on Gather at all.
I could not post at all. Connie's page was there, but dead in the water.
Someone on Facebook finally came up with the clearing of cache and cookies. I don't remember who was first, but to get there, I had to google my way on each time. I still do. I still have to clear my cache and cookies frequently. That's okay, takes a moment if that.
But I still have to google on site.
Our wasteland of Google had only us for several days. Then, one by one people read our constant posts on Facebook's Gather Group to clear cache and cookies, and google their way on.
Then we began getting posts through, after multiples submits. We had to submit many times.
I remember my first multiple groups post. Len asked how I did it. I don't know, just put them in, and they posted. Then could not do it for another week.
Every thing I tried to do was experimental at that time.
Now if they give us back the photo uploader and video uploader --- and let me just type in gather.com as in the days before April 26...................
Why did I put up such a fight to do it?
I tried several other writing/ Social sites. sorry, but yuck. None were the communnity we have here. The best site for writing was cold, boring, and full of bad articles. Plus you had to stay within four and five hundred characters.
Hey, I write stories, not ads. The friends I connected here from Gather were busy counting.
I don't write that way.
The second one was better for writers, but unsocial.
I like people, and conversation. Gather is the only one I have found that is both.
Wattpad is the next best for me, but not all that great a social site.
