Another week has flown by. It is time to reflect on last week's challenge and to present another Thursday Challenge.
Thank you to everyone who accepted last Thursday's challenge. There not near as many responses as there were the last time I posted Thursday's Challenge but this was a good start for a challenge after I came back and I much appreciate all who participated in the challenge either by reading the responses or by reading and responding. You are all outstanding people
As promised, here is a brief review of the work of at least some of those who responded.
Sharon P's thoughts were especially helpful She wrote " The first thing I notice is the title. If it does not sound interesting, I pass on by. I do tend to be caught by the first line. If it isn't interesting, I don't go farther very often unless it's a friend"
Douglas showed us by good example how good prose will draw readers. Jay suggested that Gather bring in more members and Heather just loves to write. This is my 1st time in doing a Challenge in review so if I have missed your fine contribution please remind me and I will correct that awful mistake next week.
I wish I had some or for that matter any suggestion on how get more readers to our posts. Actually I am at a loss which is why my 1st challenge when I came back was how to get more readers. I am grateful for the helpful suggestions.
This challenge this week is yet another short and sweet one. The challenge for Thursday September 5,2013 is to create a post explaining why you never left gather or why you came back.
To be frank I came back because of two reasons, 1) I missed my friends here, some of who actually think that I have at least a little talent, imagine that. 2) I haven't found any better place where I can learn to be better at my craft.
As always for Thursday's challenge any genre is welcome including free verse, narrative, dialogue or any other style that you are comfortable with.
I was very impressed with the submissions for Gather Writing Essential last week so will continue for at least another week to limit the number of rules/guidelines. Everyone knows that teachers live for rules and guidelines even when students ignore most of them. It is true that you can take the teacher out of the classroom but you can't take the classroom out of the teacher. That being said, I must have at least a few rules for this challenge.
The first rule to remember is to include the word Why 9/5/2013 somewhere in the title. A second guideline is to be sure to tag it with Thurs or Thursday Gather Writing Essential, Why. Don't forget to Post your post to Gather Writing Essential.
Until last week there was a guideline that I had been quite strict on. That rule was to limit the number of submissions to just three submissions from each member. For yet another week I will not impose that rule. I didn't regret doing this last week so I am going to try it again this week. It will most likely be the last time I ignore this rule but maybe not. I didn't regret it last week I really hope that I won't regret this and I hope that none of the other editors will be angry at me. To the other editors please forgive me for taking liberties in this area. It has been so long since I have read many posts here I need to get back in full force. The dropped limits ill be only for one more week.
I look forward to reading your work. I will post any idea that I personally use at the end of next week's challenge.
