Once upon a time eons ago, I got fired for doing something incredibly stupid. I had my head in the clouds over a guy and a date I had that night. As a result of not paying attention to my close up procedures I forgot to lock a fridge at the coffee kiosk I worked at. Needless to say the fine citizens passing by the Kiosk noticed this and decided to help themselves.
Needless to say the brown stuff hit the fan the following Monday morning when I reported to work. Yes I was canned on the spot. I knew it was my fault and I felt bad that I had made a mistake. I wasn't sorry that I was leaving a dead end job that paid peanuts. This was an incentive to get a better one that had growth potential. I went home and let my fingers do the walking through the yellow pages and lined up some interviews with Temp agencies. I landed assignments and proved my worth. This led to bigger longer assignments which led to permanent employment at a Trust company.
I was laid off due to restructuring but I thought that if I did it once I could do it again. I got back on the temping circuit and eventually got another job that lasted two years.
If I hadn't gotten fired from my first job at that point I may have put up with a boss I disliked and not making enough to pay the bills and save some money.
I can almost thank my stupidity on that day for giving me a chance somewhere else.
