Many of you know that I’m a newbie writer. As I was pondering the many possibilities of this week’s challenge, I asked myself, “Why did I start writing creatively?” Heck, I had never done creative writing, for I was far too busy trying to make a living and run my business. Yet, in the back of my mind there was a seed, waiting to grow and wanting to write a story about my family.
I told my hubby, “Hubby, I want to write a book that involves you and the kids. But, I want it to be a fantasy.”
He must have known I was bored with the business life tedium and latched onto my idea like a fish would if it had really wiggly bait. “I want to be a time traveler.” That was the beginning of my creative writing.
My grandson said, “I want to be a teleporting ninja carrot with a red cape, silver button and ninja scarf.”
His mother said, “I’ll be a pink platypus.”
So I asked myself, what can I do with these characters and make a story? Determination, a magic pen, a great deal of not having a clue and a certain amount to what was happening in politics, made it happen.
Was it a great piece? Absolutely not. Was it fun? Absolutely! Plus it brought me here to Gather where I’m beginning to learn how to write.
What's the challenge? Tell your family or friends that you want to write a short story about them. Tell them they should have super powers and they don't need to be human. Tell them they can be anything that comes to their minds. Then write a story involving their characters.
The Rules:
Keep in mind, this is a monitored group and there are only a couple of rules, which are:
Make sure you put this (WWE, 1/30/13, Family & Friend Fiction) in your title.
Be sure to tag it with WWE, Gather Writing Essentials, Family & Friend Fiction.Post to Gather Writing Essential.
I ask that you make your submission(s) by next Tuesday afternoon.
There is a limit of three submissions from each member per day. If you’re extremely prolific, spread out your work and post only three submissions per day.
Most important:
Put this challenge statement at the beginning or end of your submission so readers will know what you’re supposed to do and won’t think you’re crazy.

Wish I could get my family to loosen up enough to play...
Your grandson chose a great character...Clever lad!!
Maybe your friends and their kids will play. Kids have such wonderful imaginations and I was so tickled that my grandkid's mom hopped in. I think she just wanted to make her kid happy. Granted, I did have to do some guilting - okay a lot of guilting.
2) I'm not sure I could write a story that would do them justice.
3) Good idea, Pam.
Just stopping by to say hi and pay back some points :)
Thank you for sharing and submitting to
The Surreal Circus.
You do come up with some fantastic prompts, Pam.
I'll be ssure to read some of the responses.
So keep at it.
And we know who really wields the power in the workplace.
:-D
Oh, Liz, you are so right.
You two are a kick.
I want to work on those and see if I can finally get them posted.
I hope you understand.
I have to work Saturday and Sunday. And, I am awfully exhausted with lack of good sleep lately.
Family and friends, prepare for embarrassment!
Thanks, Ann and thanks again for the feature.
I hope your hubby has taken you seriously and is supportive. My family has never been supportive of me unless there are real tangible results that can be easily obtained.
