Many of you know that I’m a newbie writer. As I was pondering the many possibilities of this week’s challenge, I asked myself, “Why did I start writing creatively?” Heck, I had never done creative writing, for I was far too busy trying to make a living and run my business. Yet, in the back of my mind there was a seed, waiting to grow and wanting to write a story about my family.
I told my hubby, “Hubby, I want to write a book that involves you and the kids. But, I want it to be a fantasy.”
He must have known I was bored with the business life tedium and latched onto my idea like a fish would if it had really wiggly bait. “I want to be a time traveler.” That was the beginning of my creative writing.
My grandson said, “I want to be a teleporting ninja carrot with a red cape, silver button and ninja scarf.”
His mother said, “I’ll be a pink platypus.”
So I asked myself, what can I do with these characters and make a story? Determination, a magic pen, a great deal of not having a clue and a certain amount to what was happening in politics, made it happen.
Was it a great piece? Absolutely not. Was it fun? Absolutely! Plus it brought me here to Gather where I’m beginning to learn how to write.
What's the challenge? Tell your family or friends that you want to write a short story about them. Tell them they should have super powers and they don't need to be human. Tell them they can be anything that comes to their minds. Then write a story involving their characters.

Wish I could get my family to loosen up enough to play...
Your grandson chose a great character...Clever lad!!
Maybe your friends and their kids will play. Kids have such wonderful imaginations and I was so tickled that my grandkid's mom hopped in. I think she just wanted to make her kid happy. Granted, I did have to do some guilting - okay a lot of guilting.
2) I'm not sure I could write a story that would do them justice.
