Monday Writing Essential: Haiku for a new year

Once upon a time

Chimes echoed like our stout hearts

Sounds heard near & far

Riding waves of happy bliss

Heavy bells toll again

Over town & country side

So greet a new year

And all people here & there

Welcome snowy days

Staying warm all the day long

And into this night

Let all time visit & stay

If we follow the spirit of the second half of the poem, our children's children might look back at our day and smile at how care-free and innocent we were, not knowing that all they have to do, is what we do, for their children's children to look upon them the same way.

"The hopes and fears of all the years are met . . ." And let's hope we're not all going to be fiscal cliff dwellers, too. I wholeheartedly agree--to our childrens' children . . . "Time past and time future are perhaps contained in time present. . . ." to quote a famous poet. But where would we be without childrens' verses?--Jack and Jill went up the hill . . .

Glad you liked it. It all came out rather quickly with no editing. What did I mean by "Let all time visit & stay"? Some call it that magical feeling; others call it mystical; and some a sense of the eternal breaking into the moment. I guess I had the feeling of time dissolving in a mood.

Hoping we all get through it, not just to endure the journey, but to find enjoyment preserved despite all the heartbreaks and tragedies around us and in the news. That makes us sober-minded. Holding joy and sorrow together in the mind.
