The last two weeks for Thursday's Challenge have been silly to say the least. My writing is usually more serious but I needed a break from the serious challenges of several weeks leading up to two weeks ago since I became editor for Thursdays. A friend of mine gave me a basis for this week's challenge which is quite a good idea for a challenge but I am afraid that I am not finished with all of my sillies yet. The great thing about this challenge is that it can bring out the silly and the serious in all of us.
Your challenge for Thursday Writing Essential August 30th is to create a post that reflects on"What is the most important lesson or lessons you have learned in your life?"
When I was age fifteen I was water skiing about a mile and a half from Niagara Falls and my Dad said, "If you go out and get drowned don't come running to me." This was not one of the most important lessons I have learned in my life though I will be grateful as long as I live that I really had no reason to follow my Dad's advice.
Some seven years later I told a close friend that I was getting married after a short courtship with my only wife. He said to me that before I married her I should take her camping. If I did this I would see her as she really was. If after that I still loved her I should marry her. This was also not the most important lesson I have learned in my life. I have been married to this dear lady for 30 years and it wasn't until six years ago that I took her camping. I am glad I waited that many years. I really believe you have to truly love someone to sleep on an air mattress that was high and dry when you went to bed, gone and wet when you wake up.
There was an old man who offered this advice to his great grandson in the last moments of the mans life." In my ninety- two years of life I have learned that you should never try to kiss a pig. It annoys the pig and wastes your time." Although this is good advice if you are the kind to want to kiss a pig. I have never been in the mood to do so.
For me there have been so many important lesson that I have learned in my life that I can hardly think of the most important lesson. I have learned that the kindest thing you can do is to let go sometimes no matter how hard it is to let go. I have learned that before anyone else can believe in you you must believe in yourself. I have learned the value of never giving u and that attitude is the only real disability. Among the most important lessons I have learned is that if you want to be loved you must love and that unconditional love means love without any strings attached. I have learned that the wealthiest people on earth are not the ones with a lot of money but are the ones who have a lot of true friends. Even after posing my challenge I am not sure what exactly is the most important lesson in my life but I look forward to finding out.
My question to all y'all is, "What is the most important lesson or lessons you have learned in your life?"
My challenges wouldn't be my challenge with out a few guidelines that we need to follow please.
One guideline to remember is to include the words Important lessons 8/30/2012 somewhere in the title.
Another guideline is to be sure to tag it with Thurs or Thursday Writing Essentials, Gather Writing Essential, Important lessons. Don't forget to Post your post to Gather Writing Essential.
The final guideline is to not forget that there is a limit of three submissions from each member per day. If you’re extremely prolific, spread out your work and post only three submissions per day.
The new Thursday challenge has been set. just like weeks before I encourage you to take your time, reflect on it and relax while creating your masterpieces. Just don't be too relaxed where you forget to submit it. Even as relaxed as we are there still is great anticipation and high expectations for this challenge. The question you need to ask yourselves my talented friends and purveyors of fine work in all genres, isn't it time for you to share your important lessons with the rest of us? Share with us but not until after midnight of course but feel free to get ready now.
* After there are three or more posts that have accepted the challenge I will be making a list of them and posting it to Gather Writing Essentials periodically during the next seven days.
**Any post submitted after Thursday will be accepted throughout the week as usual.

My husband and I married after knowing each other for about 8 months. Being a city kid, I am not a happy camper, so if he'd taken me camping, we might not have married.
I can't believe you never even kissed a piglet. They're so cute.
I'm pretty sure it's not a "heard" of pigs but it might be a "herd".
Of course after thirty years, if she had said, "I'll never go camping with you again, you could just add it to that list of things all couples have that they will never do again with their spouse."
A fun topic, Kevin.
Thank you for your kind words my friend.
I was unaware of the earthquake..I didn't have the tv on. But I remember saying to him if he ever died on me I would never talk to him again.... I was so upset...
So far he hasn't! :)
I'll let you know when I post my take on this one! :)
Excellent prompt, Kevin. Yes, a great editor.
The most important thing I've learned is:..this moment is my life.
Oh, and don't smoke, it ruins your arteries.
You know I always speak from the heart.
Okay, sometimes from my gut too.
I am not in your group but, thought I'd comment anyway,,,
I have all I need at this age,,,and cannot remember when I wanted more,,, I'm sure I thought I wanted more but, God doesn't make real people greedy,,, HE gives us what we can handle,,,
God Bless you and your family my dear,,,
Excellent challenge, Kevin.
And, life would be totally boring without a good dose of silly !
Sorry I have not been able to keep up with the challenges. 1) I have for some reason been super-mega busy, and 2) all of the sports-themed stuff just wasn't up my alley.
I know it is late, but I shall make an attempt at this one, anyway. :)
You are writing a book? Awesome. I am attempting to put a book of poetry together to publish on Amazon. :) My first shot at it--we'll see how it goes. :)
