It’s that time of the month again. No, not that; geez, people, it’s time for you to respond to a challenge put up by one of our talented members.
This comes at a perfect time as I’ve been feeling a bit down the last few days. But… I guarantee I’ll be back in the saddle next week and you’ll have to work.
Back in March, Joann B. came up with quite the challenge for you when she posted WHILE LEN SLEEPS [Your Turn 3 (Saturday Writing Essential)].
* * *
Len is so peaceful, there, in his chaise lounge, in the shade; let's let him sleep. I'm sure he's dreaming of creative and convoluted prompts to hand us for Saturdays-without-end (Hmm, that might be his definition of torture) 8-)
Meanwhile, back in Crank-'Em-Out City, John Beck has given me a good idea in one of the comment threads -- BIG BLUE [Open Doors (Saturday Writing Essential] -- and Lena K has given me another -- Photo by lena k.
First, John's
Imagine yourself the sudden recipient of great, unexpected wealth. It could be anything...you win the lottery, someone leaves you a fortune, something you wrote is optioned for a big-budget film and becomes HUGE...whatever works for you, but your potential windfall is already earmarked. Tell us the story.
Second, Lena's – she posted a mundane little picture that I consider great art (in the future, it will be reproduced, suitable for framing). It sort of makes me think Andrew Wyeth with a camera.
Find a visual, of some sort, on GATHER, and show it to us (get permission first – See, Len? I can be taught.) Tell us the story it tells you.
This Week’s Challenge:
Use prose or poetry to write about one of the two following ideas.
A tale of sudden wealth -
• Imagine yourself the sudden recipient of great, unexpected wealth. It could be anything...you win the lottery, someone leaves you a fortune, something you wrote is optioned for a big-budget film and becomes HUGE...whatever works for you, but
• Your potential windfall is already earmarked.
• Tell us the story.
or
Story of "this" image -
• Find a visual, of some sort, on GATHER, and show it to us (get permission first – See, Len? I can be taught.)
• Tell us the story it tells you.
Ideas:
You won a lottry/contest
You receive the Nobel prize for literature
You turn out to be the last living descendant of King Midas
Your writing makes you rich (yeah, that'll happen to me any day, now)
Watch Out For:
Make sure you have the title followed by (Saturday Writing Essential).
Make sure you post it to Gather Writing Essential and, particularly important, include the regular tag: SatWE.
Make sure you get permission to use any image (I keep harping on that because I forgot!) and mention/attribute that work.
Recap:
I won't put much here, because If Len uses either of these separately, he'll have to rewrite it anyway. Just read as many of last week's posts (and any others you stumble across) as you can, and comment - you know how we all need those comments (some nights I dream of comments!)

Weekly reminder: Don't forget to recommend an article that you like (to learn why, read Ann Marcaida's article Attract More Writers and Artists to Gather!). Also, try to place a comment on at least one article and say more than you liked the piece. Tell the author what worked and what needs work.
The Rules:
- Put this challenge statement at the beginning or end of your submission so readers will know what you’re supposed to do.
Challenge: Use prose or poetry to write about one of the two following ideas.
A tale of sudden wealth -
• Imagine yourself the sudden recipient of great, unexpected wealth. It could be anything...you win the lottery, someone leaves you a fortune, something you wrote is optioned for a big-budget film and becomes HUGE...whatever works for you, but

- There is a limit of three submissions from each member per day. If you’re extremely prolific, spread out your work and post only three submissions per day.
- Post to Gather Writing Essential.
- Tag your submission with SatWE.
- Include (Saturday Writing Essential) as part of your title.
- I ask that you make your submission(s) by next Friday afternoon.
Good Writing!
