"People of good will can easily judge the great
importance of preserving the true teaching
about contriton and faith, the two parts of
repentence."
--from Art XII, Apology of the Augsburg Confession
1531
No, I'm not a fan of what's called automatic writing
As if in a seance or hynotic trance with garrulous thoughts.
Neither is it strict logical dialectics, i.e. Aristotle's virtues
Nor pure emotion as if the heart is good & can evil escape
More like a Psalm, a prayer, a philanthropic mood acted out.
If ethics are beliefs & morals actions what is goodwill?
Does the soul combine both sound reason & empathic emotion?
Do questions belong in a poem read aloud for all to ponder?
Or do you expect answers from me, as if I have wisdom to share?
To the extent I am an artist I have a mind & a conscience
To realize, with humility, that I have a gift I ought to share
Because I have a heart & mind to receive your gifts as well.
Thank-you & goodbye for now all you who toil w/ your thoughts.

Often in iambic meter, but missing the mark of blank verse.
We have here a piece of poetic musing that truly skirts much of what we consider poetic, but does not dump poetry's confection in the dumpster.
Was it as satisfying to write as it was to read?
