Cattail Mulberry and Liam Silverthorn were destined for great things. They had been chosen based on their consummate hunting skills to compete against the other districts in the annual Hunting games. District twelve may have been the poorest in the land of lost wishes but due to the fact that they had to hunt to survive made them true contenders and had the best shot win the competition.
Unfortunately, three days before they were to travel to the capital, Liam was abducted by President Rains forces lessening their teams chances of winning. Distraught yet determined to fight, win and get Liam back, Cattail seeks out the blacksmiths son Conner Tanner to take Liams place. Cattail uses his horse shoe throwing abilities and also trains him on the bow and arrow and slingshot. She is convinced he will be successful. Finally the day of travel happens and they are off to compete for a million dollars of food and a new home for their families.
The rules are that the competitors can only kill and opposing team if they are caught stealing another teams stash of food. All food hunted must be presented at the end of the three day competition to determine the winner.
Competition is fierce for most of the eastern districts. The western districts don't have a snowballs chance in hell. They had no need to hunt down food as they are all rich and they no nothing of having to survive by their wits and the only thing they can hunt down is a new wardrobe on Rodeo Drive.
Cattail and Conner win the competition hands down and then seek to rescue Liam with the help of their hunting buddies. Liam is found and the scandal of his abduction is brought to light. President Rain is executed for his part and his government is over thrown replacing it with representation for the people by the people. Obviously dictatorship and oppression doesn't work. Democracy rules!
