I write mysteries mostly but some people might think of them as crime/detective stories as well. My protagonists are everyday people who get thrown into situations where a body has been discovered either messing up Lauras living room or floating face down in their cereal. Laura and her husband Gerry get to work closely with their fave homicide detective, Jeff Gibbons. The books are lighter in nature as they are humorous as well as a detective story. I also love reading these kind of books. My favorites are Janet Evanovich's Plum series, J.A Jances JP Beaumont series and many others. A lot of research is done to keep up with police procedures and forensic investigation. I don't use CSI as a bench mark as it is highly inaccurate as far as the methods are more high tech than reality.

Very nice reply, Karen. I like the books of Johnathan and Faye Kellerman because they show more than one side of the murder issue. Johnathan writes about Milo Sturgis a gay detective lieutenant and his side kick child psychiatrist, Alex Delaware. Faye writes about Peter Decker who is a detective lieutenant as well and the story lies equally between the murder involved and the life Peter shares with his wife, Rina Lazarus and their Jewish family. Both of them let you see another side of the murders they investigate.

i read Jonathans books and I enjoy them. They aren't trying to go too techie. Alex always takes the psychological perspective. I have read a couple of Fayes books and they are quite good as well.

I definitely agree - people seem to jump too far forward when it comes to technology in the CIA. Also, it's a great idea to keep up on current police procedures. They seem to change frequently in some areas.

Police pulse on the internet is a great resourse for info on police procedure. You can also ask them questions.
