If I was gone tomorrow
Would I leave regrets behind
Dangling like memories
In the shadows of my mind?

Would I be disappointed
If today I ceased to be?
If I looked back on my life
What is it I would see?

Did I set a good example?
Could you look at me and say
I’d like to be like her
In each and every way?

How do you judge a life?
What constitutes success?
Is it enough to do no harm?
I doubt it, I confess

As autumn fades to winter
Have I left it all too late?
Is there time to make a difference
Before I meet my fate?

If I’m not gone tomorrow
If I don’t cease to be
Can I leave the world a better place
And find some peace in me?

I guess it is this time of life. My brother and I were talking about our life accomplishments and wondering if we could have done more for others. That is what inspired this poem.

Those very thoughts are on my mind a lot these days. I am working hard to be able to say that I will have no regrets. Time is short.

Yes, I guess that because time is short, we begin to examine our lives and wonder if we fulfilled our potential.
