What happens when things just aren’t right?
Have you ever gotten up in the morning, gotten washed up and ready for the day, dressed to the nines? Wait, you say to yourself something is just not right. I you want to go to work and earn your way but you are experiencing a roadblock. You just can't get out the door due to an overwhelming sense of anxiety. You are afraid that people will stare at you and laugh. You imagine invisible horns sticking out of your head and have a dreaded sense of paranoia. So you kick off your shoes and go dive back under the covers where you feel safe and secure. This is a common feeling among people who suffer from social anxiety and agoraphobia. You might need anti anxiety medications to help cope as well as counselling to help you cope with the debilitating illness. It’s best to consult your physician who may refer you to a psychiatrist to get the medications best for you. At first you might not even be able to leave the house to get one on one counseling but there are help lines available to call like Telecare or 4 County Crisis warm lines; this is available in my area. They do work, trust me I have used them. The workers are trained to help you cope with the immediate problem and suggest solutions to the immediate problem. Depending on the service they can come to you, or eventually meet with you in public when things are getting easier.

Have you ever gotten up in the morning, gotten washed up and ready for the day, and dressed to the nines? Wait, you say to yourself; something is just not right. You want to go to work and earn your way; however you are experiencing a roadblock. You just can't get out the door due to an overwhelming sense of anxiety. You are afraid that people will stare at you and laugh. You imagine invisible horns sticking out of your head and have a exaggerated case of paranoia. So you kick off your shoes and go dive back under the covers where you feel safe and secure after having called in 'dead'. This is a common feeling among people who suffer from social anxiety and agoraphobia. You might need anti-anxiety medications to help cope as well as counseling to help you deal with the debilitating illness. It’s best to consult your physician who may refer you to a psychiatrist to get the medications that are best for you. At first you might not even be able to leave the house to get one on one counseling but there are help lines available to call like Telecare or a crisis line available in your area. They do work, trust me I have used them. The workers are trained to help you cope with the immediate problem and suggest solutions. Depending on the service they can come to you, or eventually meet with you in public when things are getting easier. Having an anxiety issue is not the end of the world. There are things you can do to make your life easier. Be open to new ideas but do what works for you. You and only you know your limits. Don’t let people tell you that you can’t or shouldn’t do something. People will want to tell you to GET OVER IT. These people just don’t understand that having a mental health issue is not like recovering from a cold. You’re going to have days where you feel great and can carry on as usual and then there are times where diving under a rock seems like the best idea. Go with the flow.
