NURSE
©2012 Robert Burnham
For my favorite nurse
She looks
Upon her charges
She remembers
They are human beings
Placed before her
For many reasons –
Some, are injured
And on the mend
Some, are lost –
To their emotions
Or to their intellects
Most,
Have simply grown old,
Discarded former identities
But not to her, –
She Knows,
They still have dreams
They still have desires
They still have lives to live
She understands
She cherishes, and
She serves
After all,
She’s a Nurse
Whetstone Poetry:
For nearly the last two months, I have been recuperating from a broken hip.
I have been under the care of Greenhaven Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center,
Greensboro, NC. In the past I have participated in nursing home ministries, however,
until actually living among nursing home residents I never grasped the true experience
and how sweet the difference a compassionate, dedicated and caring nurse makes
in the lives of these individuals under their care. It makes all the difference in the world!
