Let's Go Get a Bite
Â
Earth - a blue and green orb spinning through infinity. Humanity crawling over her like ants at a picnic - nearly 7,000,000,000 ants on Picnic Earth – surreality – in a world that produces 17 percent more food than necessary to feed every man, woman, and child, not to mention, livestock, pets, and pervs – yet, 923.000,000 go hungry every day -13.1 percent - nearly one in seven – hungry - the majority – children. Malnutrition touches one in three children in developing countries - plays a hand in 5,000,000 child deaths annually - disease beyond believing – up to160 days per year.
emaciation
empty belly – empty stare
empty jar of hope
Oppressive governments beget poverty - poverty begets hunger and malnutrition - hunger begets more hunger. The threshold between nutrition and malnutrition - a buck twenty-five – yes - $1.25 per person per day - what to do - what to do – what to d.o. Night on the town for two in Boston - two cocktails - $20, two appetizers - $20, two Entrees - $60, two bottles of wine - $70, two coffees - $10, two desserts - $20, baby sitter - $80, parking - $20 = $300. Night on the town for 240 in Zimbabwe.
fat, hip and happy

I will say this about the Haibun. It is deceptive. It contains prose poetry and haiku. You think it can't be hard to write prose poetry, why that's just like writing prose! No...one of the hallmarks of prose poetry is this from baymoon: Internal rhyme and alliteration and repetition can be used. Some such trait of poetry must be present. Otherwise it is prose, not a prose poem.
And when it comes to haiku, we have these words from Atticus *:Â The essence of the poem should blossom in the mind of the reader, not on the page.
With those two dictums, let us sally forth!

I can honestly say that I've NEVER spent that much for a night on the town with the hubby....or with all 4 of us. I guess I'm just too cheap and too broke. LOL
just once in a blue moon...and never recently...
I do know people who eat this way often...
Thank you for commenting.
Subjective, I know, but yours is an example of that power. Alison also wrote one tonight that won't leave my heart alone.
This is Haibun poetry now appearing at Mindful Poetry.
Your post is full of pertinent info and such a good write but isn't it sad the subject of the
knowledge it brings?
Thanks for sharing and submitting to
The Surreal Circus.
You have put such dangerous powerful facts in a poetic form that flips the tides of reason ... never have seen that kind of poetry before Stephen !!!
I want to eat, but I know I can so wanting to feed the world as well
