Moonlight Serenade

 

Moon of the night
A beacon, a pearl in the sky
Song of my heart
A flame that burns undying fire

Bring, bring to me celestial light
Orb of radiant dreams, prize of the dark
Bathe me in your illumination
As I stand here, waiting...

 

 

Poetry Prompt: Write a poem with at least one metaphor in it.  For an example, look at my The Reckoning.  There are several principal metaphors in this poem: a recovering alcoholic as a cat, a plastic bag as a falcon, as well as minor ones, such as the plastic bag as a cave.

Beautifully done. I particularly like "orb of radiant dreams, prize of the dark". Radiant as in light and as in the countenance of one experiencing the dreams that moonlight is often the impetus for. There is no accounting for the strong influence of the moon on humankind. God no doubt knew the moon would do more than control the tides but also often the tides of human emotions of love and desire.

Beautiful and mystical. Thank you for sharing this with us! Colorful images, mixing up the senses. I might just point out to our readers that all by itself the verb "bathe" actually creates yet another metaphor. nicely done as usual!

Like this line the best and not just because you mention a family member.
The moon does stand out like a pearl on a very crisp night.
