Tree of Life (Shedding Life First Wave Spring 2012)

Strong, solid, timeless

I lean into its history

Rustling leaves overhead

Soft moss under bare soles

Birds, squirrels, worms

Call its branches home

Shade in the heat

Warmth in the cold

Paper, tables, seats

Children of its limbs

Rings of life eternal

Wisdom yet unknown

Generations found shelter

A silent listener

Bark with no bite

Shadowy under moonlight

Nesting place for fairies

Tree of knowledge

Good, evil, beginning, end

Simple yet complex

Never-ending friend.

Sistahs, life happens and it a so good to be back. My favorite prompt was about trees. I found an affinity with pine trees, although all of them are special (just like people). I enjoyed Stirling's video about her affinity with a tree and found it completely inspiring.  Here is a delightful song about mango trees, had to share it:

That is excellent, Stacey. Having spent a lot of time climbing and hiding in trees when I was a kid, this really speaks to me.

Perhaps the most impressive trees on our land are white pine, with the long, soft needles in clusters of five.

I love this. I love the a tree as a "silent listener". "Bark with no bite" is very clever. And the image of "Shadowy under moonlight" and "Nesting place for fairies", is perfectly wonderful.

Sistah - I absolutely love this - I always think of you and your old tree outside your window - all trees are my friends and some I only see certain seasons but I feel a close infinity with them all...love your flowing words in this beautiful poem and the video too!
