I think Jack London was not a secret Gaian, but an open respecter of Nature, including human nature. By respect I mean appreciation, but also the "healthy respect" kind. And that, too, goes for both Nature and human nature. I live out in a rural area, but there is an elementary school just up the road that has terrible light pollution, the by product of trying to keep the school from being vandalized. The question this raises is "When will they ever learn?" Great essay, Frank.
