These lines of Don's inspired my Challenge[hope they are inspirational for all of you as well]:
Her family thought she was crazy; So they finally had her committed;
Now her heart is the open book; In this new place her door is open...
Something tragic that took place during Don's sojourn at college, was converted by the poet into something yet hopeful; let us try to write our own conversions.
Imagine the scariest place you could end up in; feeling totally helpless and hidden away where no help or rescue could save you; imagine a previously unknown strength deep inside you surfacing to 'open the door' for you...
NOW WRITE IT!
Heart lay open ready for love
He gave a token one perfect dove
Life was guiless ready and free
He promised forever and ever for me
Once war called and took him away
Love became distant miles in a day
I wrote him daily longing for word
He wrote back rarely heart became curbed
Then came the day the last letter arrived
Heart became silent, gone, not alive
No one would listen all misunderstood
Heart wanted nothing was ended for good
I was sent away to get better
From the effects of that last letter
Woman worked from dawn to night
Finally opened the heart from its plight
