The Holidays have arrived! And what is this time of year without a bit of indulgence and gluttony? Let's face it - excess and the Holidays are joined like lovers. And I'm not complaining. I'm just as enraptured with the food and shopping as the countless multitudes filling our malls.
The mayhem begins with my appetite. Starting with Thanksgiving, my DNA suddenly alters to accommodate the massive intake of sustenance, that would normally stuff a hog before the slaughter. I name the flavors of the Holidays - Turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberries and peach pie, like a devout catholic recites the Apostles Creed.
Rabid spending soon follows. As a father of two young boys, I can't help but have my living room explode with colorfully wrapped boxes, candy, and the scent of cinnamon. I love indulgence without guilt, and the Holidays grant me that peace of mind, while allowing me to portray one of my favorite characters - Santa Claus. My youngest boy once said to me, " Dad, I'm glad Santa buys cool stuff, that way you don't have to spend any money." With comments like that, how could I not spoil them?
And finally, it's a time for friends and family. The embrace of a loved one and a kiss under the mistletoe. Somehow during the Holidays, everything just comes together. So with that said, I hope everyone has a wonderful Holiday Season, and embraces some of the mayhem this time of year brings.
