End of the World...Kinda!

If you have ever wandered through the New Age section of a book store, one cannot miss the plethora of titles associated with the fall of our civilization. The most numerous of these pieces pertain to the 2012 Mayan Mayhem.

Now...Let me be clear...I'm not knocking these titles. I respect all (legal) forms of artistic expression. As a writer, being published is wonderful...and a gig is a gig. The question I silently ponder as I peruse these titles: What happens if nothing happens? Granted, most of the Mayan calendar books are not necessarily "End of the World" scenarios. The majority are prophetic, describing how the world as we know it will change once this date arrives. But my original question still applies. What if there is no change in the paradigm, resulting into another over-hyped prediction like the Y2k paranoia.

Once again...I'm not knocking the writer. But imagine the potential detriment to an author's reputaton if he's not established in the NEW AGE genre. It's like walking up to the plate with the sole intent of hitting a homerun...while blindfolded...and with a drumstick instead of a bat. You either gotta have guts or really be passionate about this belief. I offer my sincere hopes to all those who embrace this line of thought...so long as it doesn't start raining frogs at the end of 2012.
