Art Donovan is the owner of Donovan Design which handcrafts lighting fixtures. He came across Steampunk art on the web and now does lighting for these incredible pieces.
He curated the first Steampunk exhibit for Oxford University's Museum of the History of Science. Eighteen artists from around the world shared their views about Victorian Age objects which can be turned into useful, beautiful art for our "modern" age.
Objects ran from jewelry made of old chains, watches, keys to fully functional computers and iphones.
Steampunk began in the eighties when artists discovered artifacts from the Victorian Age and adapted them to our times. Steam power changed manufacturing abilities and needed gears to operate. These gears became starting process for artists to develop their ideas about history, science, and even sci-fi.
This book is the finale to the introduction of "art for everyone". Plentiful and amazing photos accompany quick resumes and thoughts of the original group who started this movement. Donovan has compiled a fascinating look at a trend to improve things not by machine-spit-out-pieces but one-of a-kinds that enliven any and all bits of technology we have.
