I’ll Not Die
©2010 R C Burnham
I lay here tonight and I wonder
How I could have come to this end
My tears, they don’t shower, they thunder
And I’ve come as far as I can bend
Don’t think that this is a sad song
I’ve seen some wonders in my time
My heart may be bleeding but I’ve lived long
Enough to have held a little sunshine
It’s from missing the light that I know darkness
It’s memories of warm kisses that keeps me cold
It’s knowing I once had friends in God’s likeness
That now has me lamenting my soul
I just need to find a place that I was truly happy
And return there because it’s a good day to die
Where a sparkling river flows past a pine tree
A fine place to bid the world goodbye
But what if that river’s a false memory
What if it never existed at all?
What if God truly has forsaken me
Will I still make a sound when I fall?
I lay here tonight and I wonder
Could I have ever changed my end
Was being unlucky in love my blunder
I still seem to have a lot within
So please don’t cry over this story
And don’t bemoan upon my last breath
Just listen; I’ll be singing in glory
And I’ll not die; even in death.

All we must do is believe.
As I've said before, you definitely have a gift, your writings are laced with talent. Excellent Robert. (I, too, hope it is not true to life!)
Blessings to you my dear friend.
Last night, I sat up late
When sleep came, came rain, thunder and lightning
Could not shut my eyes,
This morning I am crying, out of joy
Thanks...
"Robert, the despair in your words is palpable."
Thanks for posting to Short Story and More!

And return there because it’s a good day to die
Where a sparkling river flows past a pine tree
A fine place to bid the world goodbye
Been there many times Robert. Been there too many times.
Flowers sprinkled beneath my feet as a symbol of the sweet nectar,
I will feel.
Thanks for your contribution to my group, Anythingwriting
I find how easy it is to open a can of sky
with clouds making me wet.
I ask you to wait
and with my fingers
draw out the sun
from the bottom of the can
a surprise gift
pre-pacaged by God.
Thanks for adding Nuttin' But Sunshine to -- Sun Bespeckled Ink!
