Mets still up after 4.2 innings from Niese; 11-6

The Mets- Tigers game has turned into batting practice. Before the rain delay, pitcher Jonathon Niese was pitching brilliantly. After the delay, not so much. Niese gave up 6 runs in 3 innings, 2 led by a monster shot by rookie phenom Brendan Bosch. Jerry Manuel left Niese in for too long, and understandly, he wanted Niese to qualify for a win (starters have to pitch at least 5 innings to get a win). Niese seemed to struggle with his location and control and showed signs of fatigue, getting replaced by Fernando Nieve with the bases loaded in the fifth after 4.2 innings pitched. The Detroit Tigers batted around the line up and saw 10 batters reach the plate. The New York Mets have never lost a game after leading by 10 runs, and removing Niese was the best decision to keep that streak in tact. Now the relievers will have to pitch the Mets to victory, and as we have seen before, their bullpen is not their strong point. Without a primary set up man, the Mets basically use a platoon situation to match up with their opponents. We've seen Elmer Dessens and Pedro Feliciano pitch the 8th, before handing the ball to K-Rod.
