Last Stroll


How many walks we’ve taken,
Scented life our joyous thread
Along the gravel pathways
To some resting place ahead.

Will you walk me to my grave?
Speak sweet words to me today?
Will you think of who we are
As you carry me away?

Again I sense your caring--
I can feel it as I sway;
How I thank you for your gift
As you grieve with me this way.

Tattoo, tattoo, the rhythms
Of our time that sings so bright,
Echo in this place I greet
In peace for eternal night.

Comforting, soothing look at love and parting, Jim. Hopefully this is a long way off for you.
For those unfamiliar, "tattoo" is the last bugle call before "taps". The former is the signal to prepare to retire, the latter is lights out.
