It is 8:26 pm.
I thought I would combine this with the Thursday Writing Essential. Perhaps you are a bit tired of it, but I wanted to write about my late father, and what a great guy he was. I learned a lot about self-sacrificed from him. He went without, he put his needs last as opposed to the needs of the family, and really liked people. He had to, as he a conservative in a family of liberals! And I was always impressed with the way he and his brothers would argue politics and yet still managed to be civil to each other at the same time. Many families can't do that, sad to say.
His generosity included helping me out when I needed it, and vice versa. He helped out his brother, taking him in during a tough time. He loved his grandkids, they were his life. He was great with people in general, and very smart. I grew up around books, books, and more books. It was a must have in the house. He always had to read and always had to have the news on. But he didn't take himself too seriously. He enjoyed many silly movies, and enjoyed science fiction as well. I like how he was interested in the world around him, just a naturally curious person.
His illness and death crushed me, but I know that I am a better person for having him in my life than without.
It is 8:31. I don't know if 5 minutes was enough to give a good feel of the kind of person my father was, but he was a good person and I hope I was able to convey that a little bit here.
