BREAKING NEWS!!!

Greetings, Gather writers. It's Thursday, and that means it's time to try your hand at yet another unique writing form.

Oh....did I give it away? Sorry about that!

I must admit to being a bona fide news junky. I watch it. I listen to it. I get updates e-mailed to me and texted to me. There's just something completely fascinating to me about hearing or reading those words: BREAKING NEWS!

Of course this means I want to read some breaking news today. Make it up. Make it real. Make it fabulous.

BREAKING NEWS!

I won't be around for next Thursday's Writing Essential as I will be having surgery on Wednesday to repair a nasty little tear in my abdomen. Will be contacting MaryAnne for a substitute if possible!

It was anybody’s guess who might have made final arrangements to bury my father after his accident. My mother speculated that he may have met another woman who took care of everything, then disappeared into her private world. I quickly dropped the idea of finding his burial site, for lack of honest interest. Nearly six years had passed since his death and I had rarely thought of him across that time. Suddenly, walking into that cinder block curling club in that little hayfield town in central Minnesota was bringing back memories. Not complete, vivid memories. They were like a dim mist hovering in a lighted room. It was annoying that I could neither reconstruct him in my mind, nor erase him from the periphery.
