Nanowrimo

With November not too far off now, I'm trying to get together thoughts as to what to write about. I've got ideas for characters, I've got a million different story ideas, but what I'll actuallywrite, I have no idea.

Are there any other writers who are going to be a part of Nano this year? Have you ever won? What process did you go through? Did you do any planning, such as characters and stuff like that before you started?

I did it last year, but my friend and I really had no idea what we were doing, and I had a great start. I had over 32,000 words before my computer died. Needless to say I didn't finish last year, but I hope to this year.

Let me know what your thoughts are on the novel writing month. I'd love to hear about others that are involved.

Cherri, I've toyed with the idea of joining NaNoWriMo several times, but never had. I can barely make it through Book In a Week, much less a whole month of that madness! One of my good friends and her son both did it last year. He did really well. For her, it was an exercise in frustration. I've decided to give it a pass again this year! *g*

I entered two years ago and surprised myself when I actually finished a story. All the way to The End. Usually I get to about chapter two. Last year I took a break, but I'm planning my next NaNoWriMo story right now. Last time I wrote a romance, but this time I'm going to try a young adult. Of course, the last time I didn't know it was going to be a romance until I was already writing it. When my mom told me I was writing a romance novel I thought she'd gone insane, then I realized she was right. I checked a bunch of them out of the library and loved them. They're not nearly as cheesy as they were 20 years ago.

I don't have any big advice. I already knew the basics of the story I wrote last time, but so far this year all I really have are the characters. One thing I learned last time was how much you can write in 15 minutes if you just keep your fingers moving and don't worry about perfection. Perfection is over-rated. Plus it's just a first draft, it doesn't have to be perfect.

I just found out about this today...am interested. This all started for me with a writing course I took one year ago; so, I'm very new at this. I've been on Gather less than two months. It's making me write though.
